To contend with the low retention rates of first year students at Mississippi State University, the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center created the PAWS Program, also known as Peers Assisting With Students. The program focuses on student success by assisting freshman and transfer students make a successful transition to the University academically and socially by offering opportunities for building personal connections with students, faculty and staff via peer-to-peer relationships.

To support the mission of Mississippi State Univeristy by providing student learning opportunities that promote personal development through engagement in critical thinking, self-awareness, and healthy lifestyle choices in a dynamic and diverse environment that prepares our students to be a ethical, responsible, service-oriented citizens.
